Well, lets just say its like most things in life, Its ALLLLL about the details. For starts I like to ask how many “STEEL” roofs are replaced with “ASPHALT” ?????? Like– ZERO!!!! That’s for one simple reason. Metal roofs LAST longer. Period. And that’s where we start talking about details.
One of the first points is heat. METAL IS COOLER! Yeah, we’ve all heard the expression of a “Hot tin Roof” but don’t realize that the phrase originates from the days when the options where wood shakes, slate and tin……If they knew just how Hot Asphalt Shingles could get back then, they would have said “HOT AS A ASPHALT ROOF”
Typically you can expect 80 to 100 degrees cooler surface temps on a metal roof of similar color to “Shingles”. THAT’S HUGE! Especially considering what that could mean to your summer cooling bill.
Next I like to point out the overall life. And that is best exemplified by a drive in the country, or thru the old part of town. Here’s what you’ll see. 1. Ooooold ( like 100 years or more) Farm houses, and or barns. They Might be dilapidated, and un maintained. But the roof is still original! Or they might be clean and crisp like a picture out of country magazine…. Still the same roof, maybe with a new coat of paint.
It just Lasts! Need I say more.
